Acclaimed Photo Exhibit "New Perspectives: Dominican Republic" will be on Display at Primary School 24 in Brooklyn during the Month of June

New York, May 17, 2012

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) is pleased to announce that it is bringing its acclaimed photography exhibit “New Perspectives: Dominican Republic” to the Primary School 24 Dual Language School for International Studies in Brooklyn, New York.

This represents an exciting opportunity for the Foundation to connect with New York City public schools.  A large percentage of P.S. 24 students are of Dominican descent. Through the initiative, GFDD hopes that students of Dominican background, and the New York community at large, will be able to experience all thirty provinces of the Dominican Republic.

The exhibit will be open to the public, free of cost, Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, from June 4th to June 13th in the school’s gymnasium.

The exhibit will showcase aerial images from the book “New Perspectives: Dominican Republic”, a publication by GFDD, realized by an international interdisciplinary team led by Project Director and Editor-in-Chief, Natasha Despotovic. The photos featured in the Exhibit are by Dominican-based photographer Anne Casale.  A total of 60 photographs will be on display, depicting scenes from the provinces of: Samaná, La Altagracia, Santiago Rodríguez, Santo Domingo, Perdenales, Barahona, Monte Cristi, Valverde, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Espaillat, Salcedo, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, San José, Azua, La Vega, San José de Ocoa, Sánchez Ramírez, Peravia, Monseñor Nouel, Independencia, Bahoruco, Elías Piña and Dajabón.

The photographs represent nine conceptual categories – reflections of light, coasts, heights, plains, history, city, people, tourism and work – and commemorate the country’s achievements in the areas of economic, social, environmental and democratic progress.

The exhibition has been shown with great success both nationally and in Spain, the United States, and Chile. Through the initiative, GFDD seeks to expand and enrich understanding of the Dominican Republic.
