New Perspectives: Dominican Republic Photo Exhibit Travels to South America

Santiago, Chile, 9/27/2011

New Perspectives: Dominican Republic Photo Exhibit Travels to South America Santiago, Chile, 9/27/2011 The highly acclaimed Dominican exhibit, New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and FUNGLODE continues its international travels to Santiago, Chile, this coming October. One of the most recognizable and important places in the city, La Plaza de la Constitución, just in front of the Chilean Presidential Palace, will provide a majestic backdrop for the display of thirty striking aerial images of the Dominican Republic. The exhibit, which will be inaugurated on October 25, has been hugely popular as the stunning images shed new light on the lesser known areas of the Dominican Republic. Moreover, it takes audiences far away from the beaches and package resorts that tend to shape the publics perception of the tropical island country. Many of the thousands of people who visited the exhibits have been impressed by the breathtaking images of the Dominican Republic’s thirty-three provinces, produced by Dominican-based photographer Anne Casale. The images that make up the Photo Exhibit come from a richly-illustrated photo album of the same name, New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, published in 2007 by an international interdisciplinary team led by Natasha Despotovic, Project Director and Editor-in-Chief. Public reaction to the elegantly compiled 400 aerial images was so strong, that plans to reach a wider audience naturally followed in the form of a traveling photo exhibit. This exhibit has been made possible with the support of the Chilean Government.
